Terms of service.

These terms cover the SiteAssets website, the REST API and the MCP server. They are written to be readable — the plain-language summary is the same promise the rest of the document makes in detail.

§01

The short version

  • Use the service on sites you own or are authorised to inspect.
  • Do not bypass rate limits, resell the API without a Developer plan, or use scans to attack a third party.
  • Images and reports you generate are yours. We only render them and keep them available for you.
  • Paid plans renew monthly until cancelled; cancelling stops the next renewal.
  • The service is provided as-is, without a warranty or a guaranteed SLA on self-serve plans.
§02

Accounts

You can use the checker anonymously. Creating an account gives you history, saved reports and API access, and you are responsible for keeping your credentials and API keys secret and for everything that happens under them. Notify us promptly if a key leaks and revoke it from the account page.

  • You must provide accurate account information and be old enough to enter a contract in your jurisdiction.
  • One person or organisation per account; seat sharing is not permitted on Pro.
  • We may suspend an account that is being used to abuse the service or a third party.
§03

Acceptable use

The checker fetches URLs you submit. That capability must not be turned into a weapon or an open proxy.

  • Scan only URLs you own or have permission to inspect.
  • No denial-of-service behaviour: do not submit the same target from a fleet of clients to generate load.
  • No scanning of internal networks, metadata endpoints or hosts behind authentication. Such requests are blocked server-side and attempts may be logged.
  • No reselling, wrapping or white-labelling the API without a Developer plan.
  • No attempts to extract other customers’ reports, keys or account data.
  • No unlawful content, malware distribution or use of the generator to produce deceptive material.

We may throttle, suspend or terminate access that breaks these rules, and we may report activity that appears criminal to the relevant authorities.

§04

Rate limits and fair use

Anonymous usage is rate limited per IP address. Signed-in usage is metered against the monthly allowance of your plan, and requests beyond it are paused rather than billed. When a limit is reached the API responds with 429 and a Retry-After header.

  • Free — a small monthly allowance of checks and generator renders.
  • Pro — 1,000 checks, 10,000 generator renders and 25,000 API calls per month.
  • Developer — volume pricing, custom retention and an SLA, available on request.

Current numbers are always published on the pricing page, which takes precedence over this summary if they differ.

§05

Plans and billing

  • Paid plans are billed monthly in advance through our merchant of record and renew automatically until cancelled.
  • Cancelling stops the next renewal; you keep access until the end of the period you already paid for.
  • We do not pro-rate partial months and we do not refund a period that has already started, except where the service failed to work and we could not fix it.
  • If a payment fails we may downgrade the account at the end of the grace period rather than deleting it, and your data is preserved.
  • Prices may change with notice; a price change never applies retroactively to a period you already paid for.
§06

API and MCP

API keys are personal credentials. Requests are authenticated with a Bearer token, and a missing, revoked or malformed key returns 401 before any work happens. We may publish versioned breaking changes with an announcement in the changelog; the v1 surface stays backwards compatible for the documented fields.

The MCP server is a client of the same API and is subject to the same limits. We do not access your editor, your prompts or your source files — the server only sees the arguments you pass to its tools.

§07

Your content and generated assets

You keep ownership of the URLs, titles, descriptions and brand assets you submit, and of the images and reports generated from them. You grant us the narrow licence needed to operate the service: fetching the submitted URL, rendering the requested image and storing the result for the retention window.

  • Generated images are yours to use commercially, with no attribution requirement.
  • You are responsible for making sure the content you submit is lawful and that you hold the rights to any logo you point the generator at.
  • We may keep aggregate, non-identifying statistics — for example how many checks were run — to operate and improve the service.
§08

Availability

We aim to keep the service online and publish live component status on the status page, including recent incidents. Self-serve plans are provided without a contractual uptime commitment; a Service Level Agreement is available with the Developer plan.

The service depends on third-party sites. When a target site is slow, blocking or unavailable, the report will say so rather than inventing a score.

§09

Disclaimer of warranties

The service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. Scores and recommendations are best-effort heuristics, not a guarantee that a platform will render your card exactly as previewed.

§10

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, nor for lost profits, revenue, data or goodwill. Our total aggregate liability for any claim relating to the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose.

§11

Termination

You may stop using the service at any time and delete your account from the dashboard. We may suspend or terminate access if these terms are broken, if required by law, or if the service is being used in a way that endangers other users or third parties. Where practical we will give notice and a chance to export your data first.

§12

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms to reflect new features or legal requirements. Material changes are marked in the changelog and the revision date at the top of this page is updated. If you keep using the service after a change takes effect, you accept the updated terms.

§13

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which the operator of SiteAssets is established, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Nothing here removes rights you have under mandatory consumer protection law in your country of residence.
